I posted an add in Criaglist the other day and received a call from a guy who lives just a few miles away. I was looking for an older WH to restore. This will be my first one. He said he had either a RJ-58 or an RJ-59. He didn't know what it was. I'm planning to take a look at it this weekend. How can I tell was model it is? Also he said it has a Briggs & Stratton engine in it so that's not original. How hard will it be to locate a original engine if I want to do a full restoration? He says the tractor has some holes in the hood which would need repairing but other than that it's in not too bad a shape. He's asking $250. Is that a fair price for this WH? Thanks.

The RJ-58 and RJ-59 are identical. Unless it happens to still have the sticker on it, there is no way to tell, that I know of.

The identifying criteria to be an RJ-58/59 is the straight, steel front axle which mounts on a protruding bolt, and a 3-speed transaxle with a cast center section with two steel side plates.

Thanks Dale,
I'll remember that when I go and look at it. Where would the sticker be located? Any idea on what it's worth? Thanks again.

No. It turned out to be a early 60's. I believe it was a Suburban model. The hood looked like a Mack truck drove over it. It had a B&S engine. It's not going anywhere for now so I'll keep looking.
