My last posts here were while I was looking for a dash panel for my B-100 that I was going to restore. However, in the meantime, I decided not to restore the B-100, but to build a complete, from scratch, new B-100. Over the winter, I purchased pieces of old Wheel Horse's, frames, sheet metal parts, transmissions, wheels, and anything that I tought I could use to complete the assembly of a B or C series tractor.

I used all 1977 parts from a B-80, C-120, and C-160. All of the parts were from scrap or non running tractors. I purchased an engine from a B-100 that was being turned into a puller. So with the engine being a 1977 K241S-46756D, my decision was to call this thing a B-100.

So here is the final product. A 1977, B-100 8-Speed. You might call it a Frankentractor, or a Johnny Cash (one piece at a time) tractor. The only items on here that are new are the tires, battery, seat, decals/emblems, a few nuts and bolts, and tune-up parts. Of course the paint is new (Kirker Ultra-Glo, acrylic urethane, Flame Red).

That is a NICE tractor. Did you do it all by yourself? How much money did you put into it?

Yes, I did it all by myself. It's difficult to say how much I put into it because I am still doing the calculations.

Basically I would buy old remains of tractors that had usable parts. For example, I bought a 1977 C-160 automatic without engine that I used the frame, and a few other small parts from. I purchased it for $50. After taking all the usable parts off, I sold the transmission for $25. Then I bought a C-161 hydro without engine for $50, took the hood and spindles from that and sold the transmission for $125.00. And so it went.

As it stands now, my only costs not entirely paid for by reselling parts not used, is for tires and paint. The paint was $90 and the tires were $160. I just sold a transmission at the WHCC show last weekend for $150, so I am getting pretty close to a break-even point where the tractor cost me nothing.

VERY nice! Looks even better up close and personal, than it does in the pictures.
