Quick question, was this model originally gray? It looks like mine was repainted. Thanks!

You are correct, the "WORKHORSES" were gray and had 'Briggs & Stratton' engines, otherwise they were basically the same as regular Wheel Horses, they were built as a lower cost model with the lighter engines (compared to the heavy cast-Iron Kohlers) , but only for that short period. Here's a pix of one on eBay right now:

You can still get manuals and most parts. New decals also from: http://www.redoyourhorse.com.
Good Luck

Thanks for the info and the link!

Any recommendations on the color of gray to use?

Found this in a 1988 212-5 service manual

Pewter Metallic Enamel - Automotive Equivalent: 1971 Lincoln-Mercury Pewter Metallic

Pewter Grey Enamel - Automotive Equivalent: 1982 Lincoln Light Pewter (this one is not metallic)

I believe the 1982 models were the only ones to use the metallic paint and the 1983-84 models used the plain grey paint.
