I have a 1985 wheel horse that stalls when I engage the pto to mow. When I disengage the pto it will start running again.

Your seat switch is not working. The system thinks you fell out of the seat and they don't want that with the pto engaged so it kills the ignition.

when you engage pto on mower the belt on the mower deck squeals and belt smokes and blades won't turn then shuts it down. I changed the switch on seat and didn't solve problem.

Now it sounds like you have a seized bearing in the mower or the idler pulleys. Remove the mower and all the belts. Turn each pulley and spindle by hand. They should turn smoothly with no side to side or up and down play.

With the mower off the tractor try engaging the pto. If the seat switch is OK the engine will keep running.

1984 WheelHorse 12hp
I have taken off the mower from the tractor and removed center gear on mower deck and is missing bearings. Does anyone know if there is a parts list on the internet so I can look up the part name and can it be rebuilt or have to purchase whole part new. thanks

What is the model number on the mower? If you don't have that, then what is the width? Is it a side or rear discharge? What tractor do you have? In the first post you said it was a 1985 tractor, in your last it was a 1984, 12HP. What is the ID number on the tractor? I am assuming that if you have a 1985, it's a 312-8, and if it's a 1984 it's a C-125. Most parts diagrams are available from Toro, but if you can't find it, I have an extensive digital collection of manuals.

hello, it should use common bearings. try your local parts store napa etc.. they are are common general motors alternator bearings from the 60's-70's. knowned as a number 203 sealed on one side only. the sealed side is always faces outward. good luck

What is the width of cut? - not the width of the deck

Side or rear discharge?

Will guess your tractor is model 21-12K801 and a 312-8 Tractor

These are the decks sold in 1985 but older and newer decks also fit.
05-36MR03 36" Rear Discharge Mower
05-42MR03 42" Rear Discharge Mower
05-42MS04 42" Side Discharge Mower
05-48MS04 48" Side Discharge Mower

Good parts lists here
http://www.partstree.com/parts/
Type Toro in the 2nd box and a model number in the 3rd box.
The parts that are priced are still available from any Toro dealer.

If you require more info Wheel Horse did publish charts showing the various spindle assemblies and their parts. Let us know and will link you to them.
