I've had a 73 c120 Raider 12 for nearly 7 years during which time this forum has been fantastic in helping me get the parts to keep it running.
Today I found a Wheelhorse left outside without cover, five minutes later and about $80 (I'm in UK) and it was mine. And they even delivered it a mile up the road to me.
Now it's enjoying it's first night in my garage.
It looks like mine i.e. a C series. * speed transmission, fuel tank under the seat, (mine is under the hood), it has only one ID plate which is Mountfield(think they used to import them) serial number 10950.
The Kohler motor as apparently broken the rod and the transmission has a screaming bearing which I'm told is the layshaft.
The Motor is Kohler K241AS Spec 46766d Serial number 9136257
It comes with two sets of wheels with good tyres as well.
Don't know what to do with this yet, although suffering from being outside and being partly dismantled it has several parts like the setting gear which are better than mine, so my wife says "break it and sell the parts you don't want".
Is it true that you can get sent to jail for that, is it my destiny that I have to restore this machine?
Anyone help with model type and year etc I'll be most grateful.

Thanks all

Keith

Kohler likely made that engine in the early 1/2 of 1978 so most likely a 1978 model 81-10K801 but could be a 1979 model 91-10K801 or 91-10K802. The model name was C-101 8-speed in America.

Have seen 1979 models built in Belgium with a 91-10K892 model number which may be the equivalent to 91-10K802.

They are the most desired models because of the robust transmission.

A good service manual

Hi Garry,
Thanks as always for your invaluable help. I've now had a bit more time to look at this machine and found another ID plate which is of course Belgium, Model 91-?2K8-91 and serial no 172095.
It could be that the motor is not the original one. Also note that the gear shift plate is a lot wider than my Raider 12

Regards

Keith

PS That last post (after yours) is a bit strange, think somebody got on the wrong forum?

Sounds like it was originally a 12 hp C-121 8-speed but the only difference is the engine and then the one you have sounds period correct.
The 1st 9 = 1979
1 = garden tractor as opposed to a lighter lawn tractor
08, 10, 12, 14, or 16 = engine horse power
K = Kohler engine
8 = 8-speed transmission (they counted reverse)
The last 2 digits are the part list identifier. In America they are usually 01, 02, 03 or 04. In Belgium they used 91, 92, 93 or 94.

1978 was the first year for the wider hood stand and shift plate.

Belgium serial numbers stayed progressive between model years and yours is consistent with other 1979 product from there. Have seen C-121 8-speed serials
172095 - yours
171992
169651
169536
