Hi all,

i have a WH 310-8 that I rescued from an abusive home. (bad surface rust, badly mice infested, badly heat seized, bad owner, etc ). BUT... With a little work, the machine has been running strong for a few years now...

This weekend the choke cable locked up on me (it never worked to well to begin with - i think the mouse droppings corroded it pretty badly). The round black knob on the dash no longer slides in / out (cable is frozen). The problem I have is the serial number on the machine is missing - due to to heavy rust and paint just flaking off the body/seat area.

I was wondering if someone could advise me on the part number I need ? To help date the machine - all I can tell you is the motor is an older 10hp K unit with the old style points (not a newer Kohler magnum motor).

I'm hoping that the cable was similar for the duration of the 310-8 series ?
Does anybody know of a "generic" part number I can use to get mine replaced ?

Maybe ill try soaking it for a few days...

Thanks - Dave

If the engine number is K241S-46849 the tractor is a 1985 model 21-10K801.
If the engine number is K241S-46863 the tractor is a 1986 model 21-10K802 or 21-10K803. The two are identical and suspect the first was produced by Wheel Horse and the 2nd by Toro. 1986 was also the first year for the low oil switch.
Let us know which year you have because there are special instructions for the switch.

Both show a 110713 choke cable that is still available from Toro for +$50. Looks like a universal cable should work and be much cheaper. Toro are extremely proud of most of their parts.

Online Toro dealers like this

are handy. If the part is priced it should be available from any Toro dealer.

sticker on engine:
model no. K241S
spec no. 46863

This motor appears to have a oil sensor unit at the rear of the motor (which faces the dash / seat ) ...

Now you know it is a 1986 model.

Here is that bulletin on the low oil switch service
http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/fi ... ervicepdf/

Take the old choke cable into an established auto jobber and they can likely match one up for you.
Sometimes you can extend their life by removing it and poking it through the corner of a small plastic bag. Tape it up so it won't leak and pour some oil in the bag. Hang it up till the oil runs out the other end.
