I have a toro wheel horse 8-25 my problem is the motor starts and runs fine but when I go to set the engage lever to engage to cut the motor dies. I then start the motor back with no problems? What could be causing this to happen?

Sounds like the seat switch is not working correctly. It grounds the ignition and shuts the engine OFF when the pto is engaged without an operator in the seat.

Do not allow any battery power into the ignition wire. It will smoke the coil. The ignition is self-powered and simply grounding the ignition wire shuts it off. Some models use a module after the seat switch to control the ignition. A model and serial number would help find a proper diagram.
