Hello All, I am having a problem with my mower, it is a Wheel Horse 208-4SB with an 8 HP Briggs and Stratton engine. Here is the problem, when i flip the toggle switch to engage the blades it will mow for a few minutes then disengage sporadically, i've checked the belts and they look fine and not loose at all, and the engine stays running, could it be a clutch somewhere that is failing to keep the blade engaged? and if so how expensive might it be to repair.

Thanks In Advance, Marty

I'm not familiar with your model or setup, but from your description, you have an electrical problem. Flipping the toggle switch is completing a circuit to the electric clutch which engages the PTO. If it's stopping sporadically, you probably have a connection somewhere along the circuit that is losing contact sporadically. Trace the wire both ways from the switch, see if you can find a loose connection.

Good luck, like most, I hate electrical problems as they usually can't be fixed with a hammer.

Thank You Sir, I had a look at it, and after about 5 minutes with a flashlight and blind luck i found a skinned place on a wire that comes out below a 10 amp fuse and holder in the compartment behind the engine. i cut the wire and installed a bullet connector and a shrink tube over it and i am mowing again. Thank You so much

Sincerely, Marty

Don't knock blind luck, at least if it's good. Glad you found the problem relatively easily.
